Alban and Benbow – 4 generations

Generation 1

William Yeates Alban He was born abt. Aug 1787 in Leominster, Herfordshire, England. He died abt. Mar 1841 in Torquay, Devon, England. He was the son of Thomas Alban and Dorothy Yeates of Leominster, Herfordshire, England. He married Anne Benbow in 1819 in St Pancras, London, England. She was the daughter of John Benbow and Elizabeth Bradly. Anne was born abt. 1797 in London, England and died abt. Mar 1876 in Cuckfield, West Sussex, England. They had 7 children:
  1. William John Alban. He was born on 6 April 1820 in St George, Bloomsbury, London, England. He married Agnes Crooks. They were married abt. Sep 1849 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. He died on 17 May 1862 at Lyme Regis, Dorset, England, 14 months after his wife.
  2. Anne Elizabeth Alban. She was born on 16 or 22 July 1821 in St George Bloomsbury, London, England. She died on 26 Oct 1856 in Honfleur, Calvados, Basse-Normandie, France, near Le Havre, aged 35. 
  3. Harriet Mary Alban. She was born on 9 Mar 1824 in Camden, Middlesex, England and died 12 Dec 1855 Honfleur, Calvados, Basse-Normandie, France, near Le Havre, aged 31.
  4. Eliza Dorothy Alban. She was born abt. 1826 in St Pancras, London, England. She died abt. Sep 1903 in Wandsworth, Surrey, England. She never married.
  5. Thomas Clifton Alban. He was born on 26 Apr 1826 in St Pancras, London, England. He married Elizabeth Gore Tipper. They married on 27 Dec 1851 in Shirley, Southampton, Hampshire, England. He died on 19 Dec 1864 in Guernsey, Channel Islands, aged 38.
  6. Rosa Alban. She was born abt. May 1830 in England. She died on 18 Sep 1842 in Bath, Avon/Somerset, England, aged 12.

He also had a relationship with Alice Ellen Bailey, and married Mary Cecelia Dunn.
  3. George Edward Alban. He was born on 23 Jul 1856 in Baroda, Gujarat State, India (now known as Vadodara). He died abt. Mar 1870 in Easthampstead, Berkshire, England.
  4. William Gore Alban. He was born on 8 May 1860 in Ahmadabad, Gujarat, India. He married Kate Newman on 11 Feb 1886 in Paddington, London, England. He died  on 3 Dec 1906 in Caversham, Oxfordshire, England, aged 46.
  5. Arthur David Alban. He was born on 12 Mar 1862 on Guernsey in the Channel Islands. He married Ann Amalia Fritsch on 30 Sep 1889 in Beyrout, Syria (now Beirut in Lebanon) and he died abt. Dec 1927 in Devon, England  aged 65.

Paddington, London, England, aged 62.They married 1884 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (formerly Bombay). They had 7 children:
  1. Florence Elizabeth Mary Alban. She was born on 22 Jul 1885 in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, India and died abt. Jun 1911 in Willesden, Middlesex, England (aged 25).
  2. Alice Dorothy M Alban. She was born 27 Sept 1888 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. She died in Dec 1977, Hastings & Rother, Sussex. England. She did not marry.
  3. Clifton Edward Rawdon Grant Alban. He was born on 4 Dec 1889 in Mhow, India. He married Evelyn Constance Mary Gompertz. They married on 8 Jan 1917 in Bedford, Bedfordshire, England. He died in about Dec 1964 at Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. Evelyn was the daughter of Richard Louis Dalziel Gompertz and Mary Josephine Bean.   5. Frederic John Clinton Alban. (Twin) he was born on 11 Oct 1894 in Paddington, London, England and died on 9 Apr 1896 at the Throat Hospital, Golden Square, London, England, aged 17 months.
  6. Piercy Rose Alban Alban. (Twin) She was born on 11 Oct 1894 in Paddington, London, England and married Sidney Frederick Allen on 28 April 1926, Southampton, Hampshire, England. She died abt. Dec 1982, S E Hampshire, England. They had at least one child (living).
  7. Rollo Charles Stacpole Alban. He was born on 20 Nov 1895 in Clapham, England, registered as Benjamin Brabazon Yeates Alban. He died on 7 Aug 1915 at The Nek, Turkey. He was killed in action at Gallipoli while serving in the Australian Imperial Force, having emigrated to Australia in April 1914.
(2nd partner, de facto wife of Clifton F S Alban) Alice Ellen Bailey, the sister of his wife Florence Louisa Bailey. Alice was born abt. 1862 in Vizagapatam, Tamil Nadu, India. She died abt. Jun 1906 in Maldon, Essex, England following the birth of twin boys John Bailey and James William. They did not marry. They had 4 children:
  1. Clifton Frederick Alban. He was born on 24 Mar 1897 in Teresette, West Hill Rd, Bournemouth, Hampshire, England. He married Doris Mabel Gregory on 27 May 1916 in Lewisham, Kent, England. He died on 6 Apr 1917 in Pas de Calais, France aged 20. They had no children.  Originally believed to be the child of Clifton F S Alban and his wife Florence L Bailey, according to his birth certificate. Now believed to be the son of Clifton F S Alban and his sister in law and de facto wife Alice Ellen Bailey. He was fostered or adopted by George William Morgan and Mary Ann Ells and was living with them in Bromley Gardens, Lewisham, Kent in 1901.
  2. Ellaline Letty U Alban. Her birth 1902 in Maldon, Essex, England. She died in 1907 in Brighton, Sussex, England.
  3. John Bailey Alban. (Twin) He was born abt. Jun 1906 in Maldon, Essex, England. He was fostered or adopted by Dr William and Helen May Alpin of White Hall Abridge, Essex, England. He emigrated to Canada and worked on ships as a radio telephone operator. He is likely to have died by this time.
  4. James William Alban. (Twin) He was born abt. Jun 1906 in Maldon, Essex, England and died abt. Jun 1907 in Maldon, Essex, England.
(2nd, wife, 3rd partner of Clifton F S Alban) Mary Cecilia Dunn. Clifton Frederick Samuel Alban and Mary C Dunn married abt. Sep 1922 in Essex, England. Mary was born about 1883 in Bury, Sussex, England, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Dunn. She died abt. Sept 1947 in Surrey, England. They probably had no children.

4. William Gore Alban.He was born on 8 May 1860 in Ahmadabad, Gujarat, India. He died on 3 Dec 1906 in Harrogate Road, Caversham, Oxfordshire, England, aged 46, of an overdose of the opiate laudanum. He had married
Kate Newman on 11 Feb 1886 in Paddington, London, England. Kate was the daughter of Charles Phillips Newman and Alicia Kirby. Kate was born in 1863 at sea, Java Sea, Indonesia. She emigrated to Australia in 1922 and died on 2 May 1946 at 31 Waratah Street, Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia.They had 5 children:
  1. Thomas Frederick William Steel Alban. He was born on 3 Mar 1887 in St Petersburg, Russia. He married Christine Beatrice Shilcock. They were married on 14 Jan 1937 in Mosman, New South Wales, Australia. He died on 30 Dec 1978 in Narrabeen, New South Wales, Australia. They had no children.
  2. Everard Vernon Alban. He was born on 28 Apr 1891 in Mandalay, Burma. He died before 1901.
  3. Harry Clayton Alban. He was born on 28 Jun 1892 in Mandalay, Burma. He died on 9 Feb 1915 in St Eloi, Flanders, Belgium, killed in action while serving with the Royal Canadians (Prince of Wales Leinster Regiment).  He may have had a twin sister Alice who died in Quetta, Baluchistan, Pakistan in 1893.
  4. John Francis Leonard Alban. He was born on 22 Jul 1897 in Quetta, Baluchistan, Pakistan and died in the same place on 9 May 1898 aged 10 months.
  5. Kathleen Gore Alban. She was born abt. Dec 1901 in Hartley-Wintney, Hampshire, England. She married Victor William Bowden on 22 July 1922 at Tweed Heads, New South Wales, Australia. They had one still- born child at Tweed Heads, New South Wales. They divorced in 1933 at Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. She married Werner Augustus Gondolf in 1943 in Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia. She died in 1976 at Wentworth Falls, New South Wales, Australia. They had no children.
5. Arthur David Alban He was born on 12 Mar 1862 in Guernsey, Channel Islands and died abt. Dec 1927 in Devon, England, age 65. He had married Ann Amalia Fritsch on 30 Sep 1889 in Beyrout, Syria (now Beirut in Lebanon). She was born about 1866 in Hungary, the daughter of Iskender Bey Fritsch, a Colonel in the Ottoman Army. She died in England about Sep 1966 in Poole, Dorset, England.  They had 3 children:

He then married Constance Charlotte Wilmot-Sitwell (known as Bunny) on 19 Jan 1945 at Ferndown, England. They had no children.
  2. Arthur Hugh Alban Alban. He was born abt. 1892 in Alexandria, Egypt and died 1978 on Jersey in the Channel Islands. He married Muriel Rosealie Sheldon. They had two children (living).
  3. Reginald George Evelyn William Alban. He was born on 21 Aug 1899 in Alexandria, Egypt and died on 5 Feb 1983 at Kew and Chelsea, London, England. He had married Kathleen M Shearer abt. Sep 1933 in Epsom, Surrey, England. Kathleen was the daughter of James Shearer and Mary Fowler Pirie. She was born abt. 1901 in Wick, Caithness, Scotland. They had 1 child: 1. Robin Francis Alban. He was born abt. Jun 1934 in Westhampnett, Sussex, England and died abt. Jul 1984 in Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England, aged 50. He had two sons (living).
